Crossword Genius

Cut up over silly repeats, shows anger (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

exasperate

'anger' is the definition.
(exasperating is a kind of angering)

'cut up over silly repeats' is the wordplay.
'cut' becomes 'axe' (I've seen this before**).
'up' is a reversal indicator (in down clue: letters go upwards).
'over' says to put letters next to each other.
'silly' indicates an anagram.
'axe' written backwards gives 'exa'.
'repeats' anagrammed gives 'sperate'.
'exa'+'sperate'='EXASPERATE'

'shows' is the link.

(Other definitions for exasperate that I've seen before include "See axe part (anag.)" , "bug" , "Intensely irritate" , "Drive to distraction" , "Annoy" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
