Crossword Genius

Dance with member, Oscar (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

limbo

'dance' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'with member oscar' is the wordplay.
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'member' becomes 'limb' (limb is a kind of member**).
'oscar' becomes 'o' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.).
'limb'+'o' is 'LIMBO'.

(Other definitions for limbo that I've seen before include "West Indian pole dancing" , "Unsettled state" , "Period of uncertainty" , "In medieval theology, heavenly abode for the unbaptised" , "Where things are unused or forgotten" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian and The Telegraph.
