I believe the answer is:

berry

'do' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'wrong by going out for something to eat perhaps' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'wrong' could be 'err' (to err is make an error) and 'err' is present in the answer.
'by' is present in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for berry that I've seen before include "Small juicy fruit" , "Small soft fruit" , "'One might be straw, rasp or blue, say (5)'" , "Romeo's family" , "Small succulent fruit" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
