Does a navigator have scope when working it out? (8)
I believe the answer is:
latitude
'does a navigator have scope' is the definition.
I can't tell whether this definition defines the answer.
'working it out?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'working' could be 'atit' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'atit' is found in the answer.
'it' could be 'e' ('e' can mean 'electronic' which is similar to 'IT') and 'e' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'lud' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'when' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for latitude that I've seen before include "Toleration" , "Imaginery line around the earth" , "Licence" , "Tolerated extent of freedom" , "Scope (with parallel circles?)" .)
