Crossword Genius

Drink nearly the entire carafe with a sorbet (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

juice

'drink' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'nearly the entire carafe with a sorbet' is the wordplay.
'nearly the entire' means to remove the last letter (most but not all of the word).
'carafe' becomes 'jug'.
'with' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'a sorbet' becomes 'ice'.
'jug' with its last letter taken off is 'ju'.
'ju'+'ice'='JUICE'

(Other definitions for juice that I've seen before include "fuel" , "Liquid from fruit and vegetable" , "Fruit drink" , "power" , "Fruity liquid" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
