Driver for pointless proportionate representation (8)
I believe the answer is:
operator
'driver' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'for pointless proportionate representation' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'for' could be 'to' (eg both can mean 'in the opinion of') and 'to' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for operator that I've seen before include "Controller, of a machine say" , "User of machinery" , "Manipulative type of person" , "Person working a switchboard" , "Driver" .)
