Europeans from North and South presumably? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

poles

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'europeans' is the definition.
(Pole is an example)

'north and south presumably?' is the wordplay.
'north and south' becomes 'pole' (I've seen this in another clue).
'presumably?' becomes 's' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'pole'+'s'='POLES'

'from' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for poles that I've seen before include "Extremities of the earth's axis" , "North and south" , "Nationality of citizens of Warsaw" , "Rods of wood or metal" , "Ends of the earth" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
