Fellow reaches the Spanish place of worship (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

chapel

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'place of worship' is the definition.
(chapel is a kind of place of worship)

'fellow reaches the spanish' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'fellow' could be 'chap' (both can mean a man) and 'chap' is found within the answer.
'the spanish' could be 'el' ('the' in Spanish) and 'el' is found in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for chapel that I've seen before include "Branch of a newspaper trade union" , "religious building" , "Nonconformist building (with a father!)" , "Small building for worship" , "Part of or alternative to church" .)

I've seen this clue in The Mirror.
