Crossword Genius

Fellow sailor Johnson wants his tea stirred round (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

shipmate

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fellow sailor' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'johnson wants his tea stirred round' is the wordplay.
'johnson wants' becomes 'pm' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'stirred' is an anagram indicator.
'round' indicates putting letters inside.
'his'+'tea'='histea'
'histea' with letters rearranged gives 'shiate'.
'pm' put within 'shiate' is 'SHIPMATE'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for shipmate that I've seen before include "Fellow sailor" , "Fellow crewman" , "Fellow seaman" , "Colleague on board" , "Sailor on board, a real pal" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
