Find out the figure you are paid (5)
I believe the answer is:
learn
'find out' is the definition.
(I know that find out can be written as learn)
'figure you are paid' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'figure' could be 'lear' (I have seen 'tragic figure' mean 'lear' so perhaps 'figure' could also mean 'lear') and 'lear' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'n' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'the' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for learn that I've seen before include "Take in" , "Absorb as knowledge, from book or experience" , "Gain knowledge or skill" , "Ascertain" , "be taught a lesson" .)
