Fish one found in particular spot (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

plaice

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'fish' is the definition.
(I know that plaice is a type of fish)

'one found in particular spot' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is found within the answer.
'spot' could be 'place' (synonyms) and 'place' is present in the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for plaice that I've seen before include "Swimmer" , "Edible flatfish" , "A fish; sounds like put" , "N. Atlantic flatfish" , "Brown flatfish" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
