Crossword Genius

Flatter piano given lift (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

praise

'flatter' is the definition.
(I know that flatter is a more specific form of praise)

'piano given lift' is the wordplay.
'piano' becomes 'p' (musical abbreviation).
'given' says to put letters next to each other.
'lift' becomes 'raise' (synonyms).
'p'+'raise'='PRAISE'

(Other definitions for praise that I've seen before include "Speak well of" , "Kudos, pat on the back" , "Eulogise" , "Extol, laud" , "Congratulate" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
