Crossword Genius

Focal point in long poem with short introduction (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

epicentre

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'focal point' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'in long poem with short introduction' is the wordplay.
'in long poem' becomes 'epic' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'with' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'short' means to remove the last letter.
'introduction' becomes 'entree' (I've seen this before).
'entree' with its last letter taken off is 'entre'.
'epic'+'entre'='EPICENTRE'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for epicentre that I've seen before include "Shakiest point" , "Pure heart" , "Point directly above the focus of an earthquake" , "hub of quake" , "where maximum damage may occur" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph and The Times.
