Crossword Genius

Force one to edit poems (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

impose

'force' is the definition.
(to impose oneself is to force oneself)

'one to edit poems' is the wordplay.
'one' becomes 'i' (Roman numeral).
'to edit' is an anagram indicator (I've seen 'edited' mean this).
'poems' with letters rearranged gives 'mpose'.
'i'+'mpose'='IMPOSE'

(Other definitions for impose that I've seen before include "Force upon or intrude" , "Put on, tax or obligation" , "Decree" , "Inflict (something unpleasant)" , "institute" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
