Fouled up on sticky diet? (6)

I believe the answer is:
goofed
'fouled up' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with social activities as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?
'on sticky diet?' is the wordplay.
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'sticky' becomes 'goo' (I've seen this before).
'diet?' becomes 'fed' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'goo' next to 'fed' is 'GOOFED'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for goofed that I've seen before include "Misjudged" , "Made a mistake (US)" .)
