Ross

I believe the answer is:

tempest

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'smart example of comedy' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both states of affairs as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'from idyllic valley extremely' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'valley' could be 'tempe' (I've seen this before) and 'tempe' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'st' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tempest that I've seen before include "Violent Shakespearian storm" , "Pets met in violent storm" , "Violent wind storm" , "tosser!" , "Violent disturbance" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
