Get rid of weapon picked up in pallet? (11)
I believe the answer is:
shakespeare
'up in pallet?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.
'get rid of weapon picked' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'weapon' could be 'spear' (spear is a kind of weapon) and 'spear' is found in the answer.
'get rid of' could be 'shake' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'shake' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for shakespeare that I've seen before include "The Bard of Avon" , "Author of Hamlet" , "Man of note" , "English poet" , "See 12" .)
