Giant blunder in field, Rome rescinding order (4)
I believe the answer is:
ogre
'giant' is the definition.
(ogre is a kind of giant)
'blunder in field rome rescinding order' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'order' could be 'o' (abbreviation e.g. in British honours OM, OBE etc.) and 'o' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'gre' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for ogre that I've seen before include "Wicked giant" , "Man-eating monster of fairy tales" , "Has a monstrous role" , "Fairy tale monster" , "Terrifying giant" .)
