Good food and drink will always buck you up (5)
I believe the answer is:
cheer
'good food' is the definition.
'cheer' can be an answer for 'food' (I've seen this before). I'm unsure of the 'good' bit.
'drink will always buck you up' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'always' could be 'eer' (poetic way of saying ever) and 'eer' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ch' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'and' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for cheer that I've seen before include "Inspirit" , "Merriment" , "Shout hooray" , "Root" , "entertainment" .)
