Growth seen when ship's bottom is turned over (4)
I believe the answer is:
leek
'growth' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.
'ship's bottom is turned over' is the wordplay.
'ship's bottom' becomes 'keel' (I've seen this in another clue).
'is turned over' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'keel' backwards is 'LEEK'.
'seen when' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for leek that I've seen before include "Vegetable associated with Wales" , "Vegetable related to the onion" , "Welsh symbolic vegetable" , "Plant (onion relative) eaten as a vegetable" , "Vegetable related to onions" .)
