Ross

I believe the answer is:

enteric

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'wife behind' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are adjectives, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'gutsy man went ahead' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'man' could be 'eric' (I've seen this before) and 'eric' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'leaving' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for enteric that I've seen before include "Relating to intestines" , "in the guts" , "Happening in the gut - typhoid fever" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
