I believe the answer is:

woods

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'golf clubs' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'hong kong film-maker and director with small' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'film' could be 'w' (W, film about George W Bush) and 'w' is found within the answer.
'director' could be 'd' (abbreviation eg in film reviews) and 'd' is found in the answer.
'small' could be 's' (abbreviation - e.g. clothes size) and 's' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'oo' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for woods that I've seen before include "Tiger --, golfer" , "Groups of trees" , "very tall if red" , "Collections of trees, closely packed" , "Collection of closely packed trees" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
