Insect boring into uncoloured tropical fruit (8)
I believe the answer is:
plantain
'tropical fruit' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'insect boring into uncoloured' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'insect' could be 'ant' (ant is a kind of insect) and 'ant' is found within the answer.
'into' could be 'in' and 'in' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for plantain that I've seen before include "Coarse banana" , "Tropical plant like a banana" , "Tropical food" , "Green-skinned banana" , "Cooking banana" .)
