Insurance against conceding runs? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cover

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'insurance' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'against conceding runs?' is the wordplay.
'against' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'conceding' becomes 'cove' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'runs?' becomes 'r' (cricket abbreviation).
'cove' next to 'r' is 'COVER'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cover that I've seen before include "(Put) lid (on) - fielding position - insurance" , "Shroud" , "Lid or shelter" , "the point of cricket" , "Protect - insure" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
