Is East European allowed to dance round this? (7)
I believe the answer is:
maypole
'to dance round this?' is the definition.
(as in dancing round a maypole)
'is east european' is the wordplay.
'is east' becomes 'may' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'european' becomes 'pole' (Pole is an example).
'may'+'pole'='MAYPOLE'
'allowed' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for maypole that I've seen before include "Decorated springtime post" , "Danced-around post" , "Centre of ribbon dance" , "In celebration, one danced round" , "at the centre of celebration?" .)
