Look to acquire time for nobility (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

peerage

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'for nobility' is the definition.
(peerage is a kind of nobility)

'look to acquire time' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'look' could be 'peer' (to peer at something is to look at it) and 'peer' is located in the answer.
'time' could be 'age' (an age is a period of time) and 'age' is found within the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for peerage that I've seen before include "Ranks of the nobility" , "Book listing nobles" , "Nobles collectively" , "Book of the nobility" , "Dukes, earls, lords, ladies - the lot" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
