Crossword Genius

Looked up "Lady's Rings" (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

washers

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'rings' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both man-made objects as well as being plural nouns.
Perhaps you can see an association between them that I can't see?

'looked up lady's' is the wordplay.
'looked' becomes 'saw' (I've seen this in other clues).
'up' says the letters should be written backwards (in down clue: letters go upwards).
'lady's' becomes 'her's' (her refers to a woman).
'saw' back-to-front is 'was'.
'was'+'hers'='WASHERS'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for washers that I've seen is " stuff keeping nuts secure?".)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
