Loudly call out after a plea for silence (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

shout

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'loudly call' is the definition.
'shout' can be an answer for 'call' (synonyms). I am not certain of the 'loudly' bit.

'out after a plea for silence' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'silence' could be 'sh' ('sh' is said to tell someone to be silent) and 'sh' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'out' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

(Other definitions for shout that I've seen before include "Yell" , "Raise one's voice" , "Utter a loud cry" , "Call loudly" , "Bawl" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
