Made a scratch and gained a point (6)

I believe the answer is:
scored
'gained a point' is the definition.
'scored' can be an answer for 'gained' (scoring is a kind of gaining). I'm unsure of the 'a point' bit.
'made a scratch' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'scratch' could be 'score' (score is a kind of scratch) and 'score' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'd' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'and' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for scored that I've seen before include "ran" , "Gained points in a game" , "graded" , "Delivered the ball in the net" , "Made runs" .)
