Man, drunk, sent back new sort of wine (9)
I believe the answer is:
dandelion
'wine' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.
'man drunk sent back new sort' is the wordplay.
'man' becomes 'Dan'.
'drunk' becomes 'oiled' (I've seen this before).
'sent back' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'new sort' becomes 'n' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'oiled' reversed gives 'delio'.
'dan'+'delio'+'n'='DANDELION'
'of' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for dandelion that I've seen before include "I nod, laden with yellow flower" , "Common yellow-flowered plant" , "Wild plant with "clock"" , "It has a bright yellow flower followed by a fluffy seed ball" , "salad plant" .)
