Meet Charlie by the side of the road (8)
I believe the answer is:
converge
'meet' is the definition.
(I know that meet can be written as converge)
'charlie by the side of the road' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'charlie' could be 'c' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.) and 'c' is found in the answer.
'side' could be 'on' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'on' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'verge' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for converge that I've seen before include "Move towards or meet at a point" , "tend to get together" , "Tend to meet at a point" , "fuse" , "Move or draw together into one place" .)
