Near Portsmouth, where fish could be fresh (8)
I believe the answer is:
insolent
'be fresh' is the definition.
(fresh can mean rude or disrespectful)
'near portsmouth where fish' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'fish' could be 'sole' (sole is a kind of fish) and 'sole' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'could' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for insolent that I've seen before include "Impertinent" , "Pert" , "Brash" , "Cheeky" , "Rude and disrespectful" .)
