Crossword Genius

Not about to cut south, going west by old burial site (6,3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sutton hoo

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'burial site' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'not about to cut south going west by old' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'not' is 'ton' which is located in the answer.
an anagram of 'south' is 'sutho' which is within the left over letters.
'old' could be 'o' (common abbreviation eg in OE for Old English) and 'o' is present in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for sutton hoo that I've seen before include "Site of Saxon ship burial" , "Suffolk site of Anglo-Saxon ship burial" , "where old ship was found in Suffolk" , "Suffolk Saxon ship-burial site" , "Ancient burial site" .)
