Not the best man to take care of horses (5)
I believe the answer is:
groom
'take care of horses' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.
'not the best man' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'not' could be 'o' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'o' is located in the answer.
'man' could be 'rom' (I have seen 'Gypsy man' mean 'rom' so perhaps 'man' could also mean 'rom') and 'rom' is found within the leftover letters.
A single letter 'g' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for groom that I've seen before include "man of the match" , "New husband" , "man to forge a partnership" , "Prepare for role" , "Bride's choice" .)
