Old coin, item out of reach? (8)
I believe the answer is:
farthing
'old coin' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'item out of reach?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'item' could be 'thing' (both can mean an object) and 'thing' is found within the answer.
'out of reach?' could be 'far' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'far' is present in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for farthing that I've seen before include "of negligible value" , "One quarter of an old penny: measure of land in old England" , "Smallest coin once" , "Old piece" , "It used to be one quarter of a penny" .)
