On paper, perhaps, it's abrasive (5)

I believe the answer is:
emery
This could be a double definition.
'on paper' is the first definition.
'emery' can be an answer for 'paper' (I have seen 'Abrasive paper ' mean 'emery' so perhaps 'paper' could also mean 'emery'). I am not sure about the 'on' bit.
'it's abrasive' is the second definition.
(emery is used as an abrasive)
'perhaps' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for emery that I've seen before include "Abrasive material" , "Abrasive form of corundum" , "Hard grey-black mineral used as an abrasive" , "Abrasive powder" , "hard stuff" .)
