One doesn’t know the source of such income (8)

I believe the answer is:
unearned
'income' is the definition.
(unearned income is a kind of income)
'one doesn't' is the wordplay.
'one' becomes 'un' (northern English dialect form of 'one').
'doesn't' becomes 'earned' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'un'+'earned'='UNEARNED'
'know the source of such' acts as a link.
This may not be correct. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for unearned that I've seen before include "Not gained by labour" , "Unmerited" , "Not merited by work, like some income" , "Not deserved" .)
