One who can go to blazes? (7)

I believe the answer is:
fireman
'one who can go to blazes?' is the definition.
The answer is a person as well as being a singular noun. This is suggested by the definition.
'one who can' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'one' could be 'an' (an apple is one apple) and 'an' is located in the answer.
'can' could be 'fire' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'fire' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'm' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fireman that I've seen before include "Name fir (anag.)" , "he puts out at work" , "Chap with a ladder and hose" , "Locomotive stoker" , "Emergency services worker" .)
