One who helps France to be given a face-lift (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

benefactor

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'one who helps' is the definition.

'france to be given a face-lift' is the wordplay.
'france' becomes 'ntor' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'to' says to put letters next to each other (I've seen this in other clues).
'given' indicates putting letters inside.
'lift' indicates an anagram (I've seen 'lifts' mean this).
'ntor' after 'be' is 'bentor'.
'face' with letters rearranged gives 'efac'.
'bentor' enclosing 'efac' is 'BENEFACTOR'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for benefactor that I've seen before include "Patron, sponsor" , "One giving money to person/cause" , "One financially supporting a worthy cause" , "One giving to worthy cause" , "One giving money to a cause" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
