Open your mind and arrange short vacations for flower-children at the start of October. (12)
I believe the answer is:
philosophise
'open' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their base form, I don't see how one could define the other.

(Another definition for philosophise that I've seen is " Reason about deep and fundamental issues".)
I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
