Crossword Genius

Page taken from agreements in book before Romans (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

acts

'book before romans' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'page taken from agreements' is the wordplay.
'page' becomes 'p'.
'taken from' suggests deleting specific letters.
'agreements' becomes 'pacts' (pact is a kind of agreement).
'pacts' with 'p' removed is 'ACTS'.

'in' is the link.

(Other definitions for acts that I've seen before include "Book; play parts" , "Behaves or plays" , "Deeds; book of the Bible" , "these for variety show" , "straight after John" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
