Crossword Genius

Perform Shylock perhaps, right to take pound (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

render

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'perform shylock' is the definition.
'render' can be an answer for 'perform' (I know that render is a type of perform). I'm not certain of the 'shylock' bit.

'right to take pound' is the wordplay.
'right' becomes 'r' (common abbreviation).
'to take pound' becomes 'ender' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'r'+'ender'='RENDER'

'perhaps' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for render that I've seen before include "Sing a song or melt fat" , "Yield or clarify by melting" , "Substance applied to masonry walls" , "Sacred choral work" , "Submit - face the wall" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
