Popular golfer, bright, colourful, yet detached (7)
I believe the answer is:
severed
'detached' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'popular golfer bright colourful yet' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'colourful' could be 'red' (similar in meaning) and 'red' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'seve' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for severed that I've seen before include "Cut in two" , "parted" , "Bisected" , "Detached" , "Split" .)
