Porters losing even the elderly forecast (8)
I believe the answer is:
presaged
'forecast' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'porters losing even the elderly' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'elderly' could be 'aged' (synonyms) and 'aged' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'pres' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for presaged that I've seen before include "predicted" , "Forecast" , "Foreseen" , "Foreshadowed, was an advance sign of" , "Foresaw - red pages (anag)" .)
