Put up for one night, perhaps (5)
I believe the answer is:
stand
'put up' is the definition.
(to put with something is to stand or endure it)
'one night perhaps' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'one' could be 'an' (an apple is one apple) and 'an' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'std' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'for' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for stand that I've seen before include "Tolerate - resistance" , "Tolerate; rise" , "Base < put up with" , "Assume an upright position" , "Watch and do nothing to help" .)
