Crossword Genius

Racecourse that may provide a popular service for one (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

aintree

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'racecourse' is the definition.
(horseracing venue in Liverpool)

'may provide a popular service for one' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'may' could be 'tree' (I've seen this before) and 'tree' is found in the answer.
'a' is present in the answer.
'popular' could be 'in' (something that's 'in' is fashionable) and 'in' is found in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'that' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for aintree that I've seen before include "National racecourse" , "Trainee in Grand National venue" , "Liverpool racecourse" , "place for horse racing" , "Venue of the Grand National race" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
