Crossword Genius

Resin down there in pouch (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

shellac

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'resin' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'down there in pouch' is the wordplay.
'down there' becomes 'hell' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'in' indicates putting letters inside.
'pouch' becomes 'sac' (synonyms).
'hell' inserted into 'sac' is 'SHELLAC'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for shellac that I've seen before include "Varnish ingredient" , "old record" , "Resin used in varnishes" , "Take a shine to" , "Sort of resin" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph and The Sun.
