Crossword Genius

Roman emperor's bronze embodying power (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

trajan

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'roman emperor's' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'bronze embodying power' is the wordplay.
'bronze' becomes 'tan' (both can mean to get a sun tan).
'embodying' indicates putting letters inside (to embody can mean to contain or include).
'power' becomes 'raj' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'tan' going around 'raj' is 'TRAJAN'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for trajan that I've seen before include "Roman emperor, ruled 98 to 117 AD" , "Roman emperor AD ninety eight to AD one hundred and seventeen" , "Roman emperor of column fame" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
