Rush to convey a shout of joy (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hurray

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'shout of joy' is the definition.
'hurray' can be an answer for 'shout' (thesaurus). I'm not certain of the 'of joy' bit.

'rush to convey a' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'a' is within the answer.
'rush' could be 'hurry' (synonyms) and 'hurry' is found in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for hurray that I've seen before include "Yippee!" , "very brief message of joy" , "cheer" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
