Salute engineers and get out (5)
I believe the answer is:
greet
'salute' is the definition.
(I know that salute is a more specific form of greet)
'engineers and get out' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'engineers' could be 're' (Royal Engineers) and 're' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'get' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for greet that I've seen before include "Make welcome" , "Say hello, hail" , "Hail, salute" , "Meet and salute" , "Address on arrival, say hello" .)
